Chuan He at Chicago pioneered the field of RNA epitranscriptomics by discovering that m6A (N6-methyladenosine) — the most abundant internal mRNA modification — is a dynamic and reversible mark regulated by writer (METTL3/METTL14), eraser (FTO/ALKBH5), and reader proteins. His work demonstrating dysregulation of m6A methylation in cancer and the therapeutic potential of targeting m6A writers and erasers has opened a new layer of RNA-based cancer regulation.
