Chuan He is a founder of the RNA epitranscriptomics field, having discovered that m6A methylation on mRNA is reversible through the FTO and ALKBH5 demethylases. His work established that dynamic RNA modifications regulate gene expression in cancer, with FTO acting as an oncogene in acute myeloid leukemia and glioblastoma. He continues to expand the catalog of functional RNA modifications with implications for cancer biology and therapeutics.
