Emmanuelle Charpentier shared the 2020 Nobel Prize in Chemistry for the co-discovery of CRISPR-Cas9 as a genome editing tool. Her foundational characterization of tracrRNA and the Cas9 mechanism enabled the programmable genome editing revolution. She co-founded CRISPR Therapeutics to translate CRISPR into medicines including cancer applications.
