Charles Swanton

Charles Swanton is one of the world's foremost experts on intratumor heterogeneity and cancer evolution, leading the landmark TRACERx study tracking lung cancer evolution through treatment. His research has revealed the extraordinary genetic diversity within individual tumors and how subclonal architecture drives treatment resistance. He demonstrated that mutations present in all cancer cells (truncal) are better therapeutic targets than subclonal mutations. His work has transformed understanding of how cancers evolve and resist treatment and informs adaptive therapy strategies.
