Charles Limoli has been central to elucidating the biological mechanisms underlying the FLASH effect, investigating the roles of transient oxygen depletion, reactive oxygen species chemistry, and immune modulation. His work has shown that FLASH irradiation produces distinct patterns of DNA damage and inflammatory responses compared to conventional dose rates. He has provided critical insights into why FLASH preferentially spares normal tissue while maintaining tumor control.
