Charles Bhatt

Charles Bhatt pioneered the clinical development of adoptive natural killer cell therapy as a cancer treatment modality, demonstrating that haploidentical NK cell infusions could induce complete remissions in relapsed acute myeloid leukemia. His research established protocols for NK cell activation, expansion, and infusion that enabled effective in vivo persistence and antitumor activity. He demonstrated that host cytokine milieu following lymphodepleting chemotherapy supports NK cell engraftment and function. His foundational clinical studies launched a new era of NK cell-based cancer immunotherapy.
