Carlo Croce

Carlo Croce made the landmark discovery that microRNAs function as tumor suppressors and oncogenes in cancer, identifying the miR-15a/miR-16-1 cluster deletion as a driver of chronic lymphocytic leukemia and establishing the field of miRNA cancer biology. His laboratory has identified dozens of oncogenic and tumor suppressor miRNAs across cancer types and demonstrated their interactions with lncRNA sponge networks. He has contributed to understanding how miRNA dysregulation drives cancer through ceRNA network disruption. His work established non-coding RNAs as central players in cancer pathogenesis.
