Carl June

Carl June is the pioneer of chimeric antigen receptor T cell (CAR-T) therapy and led the first successful CAR-T cell trials in leukemia patients. His laboratory has been at the forefront of applying CRISPR gene editing to improve CAR-T cell manufacturing, enabling allogeneic off-the-shelf products and cells with enhanced persistence. The CRISPR-edited CAR-T approaches his group developed are in clinical trials for multiple cancers. He has received the Breakthrough Prize and numerous other honors for transforming the treatment of blood cancers.
