Tianxi Cai has developed semi-supervised and surrogate-assisted NLP methods that enable high-throughput phenotyping of cancer cohorts from EHR data with minimal manual annotation. Her PheNorm and SAFE algorithms have been widely adopted for identifying cancer subtypes and outcomes from clinical text.
