Tianxi Cai has developed semi-supervised and surrogate-assisted NLP methods that enable high-throughput phenotyping of cancer cohorts from EHR data with minimal manual annotation. Her PheNorm and SAFE algorithms have been widely adopted for identifying cancer subtypes and outcomes from clinical text. She has advanced statistical methods that combine NLP-extracted features with structured data for robust cancer phenotyping.
