Edit Buzas has made important contributions to understanding how extracellular vesicles regulate immune responses in both autoimmune disease and cancer, revealing shared EV-mediated immune modulatory mechanisms that can be therapeutically exploited to either enhance anti-tumor immunity or suppress pathological inflammation. Her research at Semmelweis University has characterized the proteomic composition of EVs from different immune cell sources and identified EV surface molecules that determine their immunostimulatory or immunosuppressive properties. Her work on EV immunology provides critical knowledge for engineering EVs with desired immune-modulatory properties for cancer therapy.
