Brigitte Dreno is Professor and Head of Dermatology at the University Hospital of Nantes and a pre-eminent French skin oncology researcher. She has led the European EADO (European Association of Dermato-Oncology) as past president and contributed to European guidelines for rare skin malignancies including dermatofibrosarcoma protuberans and sebaceous carcinoma. Her work on DFSP characterised the COL1A1-PDGFB fusion gene biology and established imatinib as the standard systemic therapy for unresectable or recurrent disease. She also investigates the microbiome-immune axis in skin carcinogenesis.

Imatinib for Dermatofibrosarcoma Protuberans
Contributed to European clinical data establishing imatinib (gleevec) as effective neoadjuvant and palliative systemic therapy for DFSP harbouring COL1A1-PDGFB gene fusion, enabling surgery for previously inoperable tumours.
European Guidelines for Rare Skin Cancers
Led EADO expert panels developing consensus guidelines for management of dermatofibrosarcoma protuberans, sebaceous carcinoma, Merkel cell carcinoma, and other rare adnexal malignancies, standardising care across European oncology centres.
