Brian MacMahon chaired epidemiology at Harvard School of Public Health and led seminal breast cancer epidemiology establishing the protective role of early age at first birth. His controversial coffee and pancreatic cancer study is a classic example of confounding. He shaped a generation of cancer epidemiologists.
