Bhawana Bhatt studies mechanisms of venetoclax sensitivity and resistance in acute myeloid leukemia. Her research has defined how IDH mutations and other molecular features sensitize AML cells to BCL-2 inhibition. She has characterized resistance mechanisms including upregulation of MCL-1 and mitochondrial adaptations that blunt venetoclax efficacy. Her translational work aims to identify predictive biomarkers and rational combination partners to overcome venetoclax resistance in AML.
