Smita Bhatia

Smita Bhatia directs the Institute for Cancer Outcomes and Survivorship at UAB, where her research has quantified the risk of secondary malignancies and therapy-related leukemias in childhood cancer survivors. Her studies on late effects following hematopoietic cell transplantation have informed post-transplant surveillance protocols. Her work on disparities in survivorship outcomes and the role of genetic cancer predisposition syndromes has expanded understanding of who is most vulnerable to treatment-related late effects.
