Monica Bessler

Monica Bessler has made fundamental contributions to understanding the genetics of telomerase mutations in bone marrow failure and the phenomenon of somatic genetic reversion that can partially correct the hematopoietic defect in inherited BMF syndromes. Her research on clonal hematopoiesis in the context of bone marrow failure has provided insights into how the stressed marrow environment promotes clonal selection and malignant transformation. She leads translational programs bridging BMF genetics and leukemia predisposition research.
