Bert Vogelstein

Bert Vogelstein has produced more landmark discoveries in cancer genetics than almost any other scientist, including the multi-step genetic model of colorectal carcinogenesis (APC, KRAS, SMAD4, TP53 sequential mutations), the comprehensive sequencing of the colorectal cancer genome, identification of MSI-high as a distinct molecular subtype, and foundational work on TP53 as a tumor suppressor. In recent years his group has developed liquid biopsy approaches for early cancer detection (CancerSEEK) and ctDNA-based minimal residual disease testing. His h-index of over 200 is among the highest in biomedical science.
