Geerard Beets heads surgical oncology at the Netherlands Cancer Institute and co-founded the International Watch and Wait Database (IWWD) that pooled over 1000 patients managed non-operatively after chemoradiation. His work validated W&W safety and defined surveillance protocols. He led European consensus statements on rectal cancer organ preservation.
