His research on the barriers preventing T cell infiltration into tumors — including TGF-beta-mediated exclusion, physical stromal barriers, and immunosuppressive myeloid cells — and on approaches to convert immunologically cold tumors into inflamed ones, addresses a key determinant of immunotherapy response.
