👥Biography 个人简介
Barry Halliwell is one of the founding figures of free radical biology, having established the fundamental principles of how reactive oxygen and nitrogen species damage DNA, proteins, and lipids in cancer development, and why antioxidant supplementation paradoxically fails to prevent cancer. His textbook 'Free Radicals in Biology and Medicine' has trained generations of researchers in redox biology. He characterized 8-oxoguanine as a major oxidative DNA lesion driving mutagenesis and demonstrated that cancer cells paradoxically depend on elevated ROS for proliferative signaling. His development of biomarkers for measuring oxidative stress in clinical settings has enabled translational redox research in oncology.
