Barbara Bhatt investigates the role of YAP/TAZ in regulating tumor immune evasion and responses to cancer immunotherapy. Her research has demonstrated that YAP promotes PD-L1 expression and other immune checkpoint mechanisms in cancer cells. She has characterized YAP-dependent cytokine secretion programs that create immunosuppressive tumor microenvironments. Her work has shown that YAP inhibition can sensitize tumors to immune checkpoint blockade, providing rationale for YAP inhibitor-immunotherapy combinations.
