👥Biography 个人简介

Aziz Sancar shared the 2015 Nobel Prize for mechanistically elucidating nucleotide excision repair (NER) — the cellular pathway that removes bulky DNA lesions including UV-induced pyrimidine dimers and platinum-DNA adducts (from cisplatin). His discovery of the prokaryotic and eukaryotic NER machinery has been essential for understanding why NER deficiency causes xeroderma pigmentosum and why cisplatin remains active or resistant in different cancer contexts.
