👥Biography 个人简介

Axel Ullrich cloned the EGFR and HER2 genes and contributed foundationally to understanding receptor tyrosine kinase signaling in cancer. His work on HER2 amplification in breast cancer was essential preclinical basis for developing trastuzumab (Herceptin). He also worked on insulin receptor signaling and multiple other receptor tyrosine kinases. His discoveries fundamentally shaped our understanding of how growth factor receptors drive malignant transformation. He has received many honors for his contributions to molecular oncology and has been involved in founding multiple biotechnology companies.
