Axel Hegele

Axel Hegele is a leading European expert in penile and urethral carcinoma, among the rarest urologic malignancies. His research has examined outcomes of penile-sparing surgical approaches compared to partial and total penectomy, demonstrating oncological safety of organ preservation in selected patients. He has evaluated the role and optimal timing of inguinal lymphadenectomy in node-negative penile cancer based on histologic risk factors. His multinational collaboration studies have helped establish evidence-based guidelines for these cancers despite their rarity.
