Dr. Axel Bhatt is a molecular biologist at Genentech who studies VEGF family member biology beyond VEGF-A, including VEGF-C, VEGF-D, and PlGF in cancer angiogenesis and lymphangiogenesis. He has investigated how VEGFR1 acts as a decoy receptor modulating VEGF bioavailability and examined alternative angiogenic compensatory pathways that emerge following anti-VEGF treatment. His work on VEGF biology informs combination anti-angiogenic strategies.
