Anna Falanga

Anna Falanga has been a leader in understanding how cancer cells activate the coagulation system through tissue factor expression and release of procoagulant microparticles, establishing the mechanistic links between cancer biology and thrombosis. Her research demonstrated that tissue factor-bearing microparticles from cancer cells activate platelets and the coagulation cascade in the circulation. She has contributed to understanding how chemotherapy and targeted therapies modulate thrombotic risk. Her work provides the biological rationale for thromboprophylaxis in cancer patients.
