Kian Kian Ang led RTOG 0129 which definitively established HPV status as the most important prognostic factor in oropharyngeal cancer, transforming disease classification. His radiation biology research shaped fractionation strategies for head and neck cancer treatment. His legacy includes the HPV-based staging system adopted by AJCC.
