Andrew Olshan

Andrew Olshan leads epidemiological research on head and neck squamous cell carcinoma at UNC Chapel Hill, with a focus on tobacco, alcohol, HPV, and genetic risk factors. His population-based studies have contributed to understanding the shifting epidemiology of oropharyngeal cancer in the context of HPV vaccination and changing tobacco use patterns. He has led the Carolina Head and Neck Cancer Study (CHANCE), a major resource for HNSCC risk factor research. His work informs prevention strategies and identifies high-risk populations for targeted screening.
