Andrew Feinberg

Andrew Feinberg at Hopkins was among the first to demonstrate altered DNA methylation in cancer — showing that cancer cells exhibit global hypomethylation relative to normal tissues and that specific tumor suppressor genes are silenced by hypermethylation. His work on genomic imprinting disorders and cancer, on stochastic epigenetic mutations as a cancer risk factor, and on the cancer epigenome landscape has been foundational for cancer epigenetics.
