James Allison performed foundational work on the T cell receptor complex and CD28 costimulation, and subsequently discovered that CTLA-4 blockade could unleash antitumor immunity. His Nobel Prize winning work launched the modern era of cancer immunotherapy. He continues to lead translational programs in combination checkpoint therapy.
