Ali Shilatifard at Northwestern has made major contributions to understanding histone H3K4 methylation through the COMPASS family of complexes, including how MLL fusion proteins dysregulate H3K4 and H3K79 methylation patterns to drive acute leukemia. His work on super-enhancers in cancer and on the mechanistic basis for DOT1L inhibitor activity in MLL-rearranged leukemias has contributed to both basic chromatin biology and cancer therapy development.
