Alessio Ciulli

Alessio Ciulli at the University of Dundee is one of the world's leading experts on PROTAC (proteolysis-targeting chimera) and targeted protein degradation, having contributed foundational structural biology and chemical design work that advanced the field. His laboratory has used cryo-EM and X-ray crystallography to determine ternary complex structures of PROTAC-target-E3 ligase assemblies, enabling structure-guided optimization. He has developed novel E3 ligase recruiters to expand the PROTAC toolkit and has demonstrated degradation of challenging oncogenic kinases previously considered undruggable by conventional inhibitors. His work has made targeted protein degradation a practical approach to cancer drug discovery.
