Adrian Hayday at King's College London has been a leading authority on gamma-delta T cells and unconventional T cells in cancer. He discovered that gamma-delta T cells are enriched in epithelial tissues and can recognize stress ligands on cancer cells without MHC restriction, offering unique cancer immunosurveillance and potential therapeutic targeting possibilities not constrained by classical MHC-restricted recognition.
