Lauren Ackerman (deceased 1993) founded modern American surgical pathology and described verrucous carcinoma now known as Ackerman tumor. He trained many leading pathologists and co-authored the textbook that became Rosai and Ackerman's. He chaired surgical pathology at Washington University.
