Salah-Eddin Al-Batran is a German GI oncologist who developed and validated the FLOT (5-FU/leucovorin, oxaliplatin, docetaxel) perioperative chemotherapy regimen for resectable gastric and gastroesophageal junction cancer. The FLOT4-AIO trial demonstrated superior overall survival compared to the previous ECF/ECX standard, establishing FLOT as the new perioperative chemotherapy standard of care in Europe and increasingly worldwide. Al-Batran has continued to refine perioperative strategies including addition of ramucirumab, nivolumab, and other agents to FLOT, and contributes to FLOT-based clinical trial network in Germany.
