Elizabeth C. Smyth

Elizabeth Smyth is a GI oncologist specializing in esophageal and gastric cancers who has contributed to pivotal immunotherapy trials transforming the treatment landscape. She was a European investigator in CheckMate 649 establishing nivolumab plus chemotherapy as first-line standard of care for advanced gastric/GEJ/esophageal adenocarcinoma with PD-L1 CPS above 5, and contributed to KEYNOTE-590 establishing pembrolizumab in esophageal cancer. Smyth leads a translational research program investigating biomarkers of immunotherapy response in upper GI cancers and is a frequent contributor to ESMO Upper GI cancer guidelines.
