👥Biography 个人简介

Lydia Lynch is an immunologist who studies the intersection of metabolism, lipids, and innate cancer immunity with a focus on how adipose tissue and metabolic states influence anti-tumor immune responses. Her laboratory has characterized how lipid antigens presented by CD1d activate iNKT cells, and how obesity and adipose tissue in the tumor microenvironment impair immune surveillance by suppressing NKT cell function. Lynch has identified free fatty acids as immunosuppressive mediators produced by adipocytes that prevent anti-tumor NKT cell activation, connecting the obesity-cancer epidemiological link to specific immune evasion mechanisms.

🎓Key Contributions 主要贡献

Adipose Tissue Immune Suppression in Cancer

Discovered that adipose tissue in the tumor microenvironment produces free fatty acids that directly suppress NKT cell anti-tumor function, providing a mechanistic link between obesity, adipose-rich tumors, and impaired anti-cancer immunity.

NKT Cell Lipid Antigen Biology

Characterized how iNKT cells respond to lipid antigens via CD1d and how alterations in lipid presentation in cancer escape from iNKT cell-mediated immune surveillance.
