👥Biography 个人简介

Marie-Catherine Vozenin is the world's foremost pioneer of FLASH radiotherapy, having conducted the foundational preclinical studies demonstrating that ultra-high dose rate radiation (>40 Gy/s) spares normal tissues while maintaining tumor control. Her work at CHUV established the FLASH effect as a reproducible biological phenomenon and led directly to the first human FLASH treatment case in 2019. She has driven mechanistic investigation of the oxygen depletion hypothesis and translated FLASH from concept to clinical reality.

🎓Key Contributions 主要贡献

FLASH Effect Discovery and Characterization

Led seminal studies in mice and cats demonstrating that FLASH irradiation at ultra-high dose rates produces dramatically less normal tissue toxicity—including intestinal damage, lung fibrosis, and neurocognitive effects—than conventional dose-rate radiation while preserving equivalent tumor control.

First Human FLASH Treatment

Co-led the team that administered the world's first compassionate FLASH radiotherapy treatment to a human patient with cutaneous lymphoma in 2019, validating the FLASH effect in a clinical setting.

Oxygen Depletion Mechanism

Advanced the leading mechanistic hypothesis that FLASH's normal tissue sparing arises from transient radio-chemical oxygen depletion at ultra-high dose rates, reducing hydroxyl radical formation in oxygenated normal tissues.
