Jeremy Rich is a leading glioblastoma researcher who has made defining contributions to characterizing glioblastoma stem cells (GSCs) as drivers of tumor maintenance, therapy resistance, and recurrence. His laboratory demonstrated that CD133+ glioma cells are preferentially radioresistant and maintain DNA damage checkpoint activity, explaining why GBM recurs after radiotherapy. Rich characterized the hypoxic niche as a GSC maintenance environment and identified HIF pathway activation as essential for GSC stemness. He has developed high-throughput platforms to screen compounds against patient-derived GSC lines, generating leads for novel GBM therapies.
