👥Biography 个人简介

George Coukos is a tumor immunologist who pioneered the demonstration that tumor-infiltrating lymphocytes (TILs) predict survival in ovarian cancer, providing one of the first direct clinical evidence that immune surveillance affects human cancer outcomes and prefiguring the era of immunotherapy. He leads the Ludwig Institute for Cancer Research in Lausanne and has built comprehensive T cell and immunotherapy programs. Coukos has characterized how the ovarian cancer TME creates an immunosuppressive niche through TGF-beta, VEGF, and regulatory T cells, and leads clinical trials of CAR-T cells targeting tumors expressing folate receptor alpha and mesothelin.

🎓Key Contributions 主要贡献

TIL Survival Benefit in Ovarian Cancer

Demonstrated that tumor-infiltrating lymphocytes (TILs) are an independent predictor of improved survival in ovarian cancer patients, providing the first strong clinical evidence that immune surveillance affects human cancer outcomes.

Ovarian Cancer TME Immunosuppression

Characterized mechanisms of immunosuppressive TME in ovarian cancer including VEGF-mediated T cell exclusion, TGF-beta effects, and regulatory T cell enrichment, identifying multiple targets for TME reprogramming.
