Anwar Padhani is a leading cancer imaging researcher specializing in whole body MRI, diffusion-weighted imaging, and functional MRI techniques for cancer staging and treatment monitoring. He developed clinical protocols for whole body MRI for staging of high-risk prostate cancer and myeloma, demonstrating superiority over bone scintigraphy and CT for bone metastasis assessment. Padhani has contributed to validation of DWI (diffusion weighted imaging) as a biomarker of cellularity and treatment response, and has investigated DCE-MRI for quantification of tumor perfusion and vascular characteristics. He leads the RECIP (Response Evaluation Criteria in Solid Tumors by Imaging Phenotype) working group.
