A leading expert in plasmacytoid dendritic cell (pDC) biology, this researcher has made major contributions to understanding how tumor-infiltrating pDCs produce type I interferons that can paradoxically both activate anti-tumor immunity and promote tumor immune evasion. Her work has revealed that tumor-educated pDCs are functionally impaired and switch from IFN-α producers to tolerogenic cells promoting regulatory T cell induction.
